Dean Leon Anderson is a London-born writer and director whose work has premiered at Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festivals, including Encounters, St. Louis International Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and Urbanworld among others.

Dean is currently developing his feature-length film Jasper with the British Film Institute (BFI). The original short screened worldwide and earned multiple award nominations, including Best Narrative at the Oscar qualifying Pan African Film Festival. Dean was also selected for the prestigious Momentum program, sponsored by Sony Pictures and Channel 4.

Dean’s latest short film, The Mediator, starring Daniel Portman (Game of Thrones) premiered at St. Louis International Film Festival, and Santa Fe International Film Festival (both Oscar-qualifying). The film received two nominations at the BIFA-qualifying Unrestricted View Film Festival. He was also among the first recipients of the Film & TV Charity’s Reel Impact Fund, supporting mid-senior talent from the Black and Global Majority.

His previous short Class 15, funded by ScreenSkills and starring Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune, Top Boy), premiered at Encounters and Urbanworld in New York. The film was distributed by Omeleto.

Dean was invited to serve on the Granting Committee for the Santa Fe Film Institute in 2026, evaluating 40 applications and allocating institutional funding to support independent filmmakers. He is also a member of BAFTA Connect in both the UK and the United States.
